Leicester Events – June Round-up

Leicester Events - June Round-up

Hasn’t June been a generally gorgeous month weather wise! And having property to rent in Leicester has meant the chance to go to a whole host of amazing indoor and outdoor events that have taken place in our great city. Here’s a roundup of a few of our favourites:

Down by the Riverside

The beginning of the month saw one of Leicester’s biggest free festivals get underway. The Riverside Festival took place on the first weekend of June at Bede Park and Castle Gardens – both of which are only a short walk away from the city centre.

Some of the best bits of the festival included the free dragon boat rides on the river and an exciting charity dragon boat race on the Sunday.

In addition, a giant tipi took centre stage in Bede Park providing activities and performances for everyone to enjoy. Then there was a huge array of artists, photographers, painters and performers offering showcases of their work. All in all a great family day out!

Events you may have missed

Not quite for the whole family, but awesome nonetheless was the UK’s first Gin and Rum Festival tour which was held at Leicester Athena.

Fans of spirits could enjoy the delights of over 60 different types of gin and 60 different rums, with seven themed bars to try them all in. In addition, there were the ever-popular talks and master classes from some of the best gin and rum producers, not to mention live entertainment and great food.

Then, towards the end of the month, was the National Space Centre’s amazing Star Wars Day: Return of the Garrison. This fan-based family event included costume characters, exhibitions, talks, workshops and the parade, as well as an invite to choose your allegiance… the Empire, or the Rebel Alliance…

What not to miss in July

The summer months never seem to let us down in Leicestershire when it comes to finding some great ways to get out and enjoy the sunshine. And with our accommodation in the Cultural Quarter of Leicester, it means that most of the things going on in the city are never too far away from us at all.

  • Soap Box Derby – Castle Street, Hinckley – July 8
  • Strictly’s Kevin and Karen Dance – Granville Road, Leicester – July 13
  • Festival of 1000 Bikes – Mallory Park Circuit – July 7&8
  • Pinked Floyd Tribute Show – The Shed – July 6 (close to Queen Street!)
