Winter activities in Leicester

This Christmas, you’re spoilt for choice for things to see and do in and around Leicester city centre. And with our stunning apartments being located in the heart of the city’s Cultural Quarter, we’re only a short walk away from where it’s all at…

There’s literally every single festive event you can imagine happening this year, so, grab a glass of mulled wine and make a list and check it twice, because the magic of Christmas is spreading across Leicester.

Here is a list of some of our highlights this festive season, ideal for when you’re looking to get yourself well and truly in the mood for Santa at this magical time of year…

Guildhall Christmas Craft Fair

On the first weekend in December (1&2), visit the medieval Guildhall in the heart of Leicester city centre for a wonderful selection of stalls showcasing local crafts, unique gifts and amazing artists.

In addition, you can soak up the festive atmosphere on the historic grounds while you sit by a real log fire and take in the sights of a grand Christmas tree in the courtyard. Food is available during the day, while children can enjoy trails and crafts throughout the weekend. Admission is £1 for adults, with no charge for children.

Jubilee Square Ice Rink

Ice skating is an iconic pastime of the winter months and throughout December and the first week of January, Jubilee Square will be home to a huge ice rink – 50% bigger than last year!

The rink will be covered by a clear roof, so families and friends can skate whatever the weather, with an amazing view of the Christmas Wheel of Light while they do. Skate hire is available for the 45-minute session on the ice and there are skating aids available for younger skaters too. Tickets start from £7.50 and discounts are available for groups of four or more.

Christmas Wheel of Light

As mentioned above, another experience to make the most of in Leicester this Christmas is the 110-ft Christmas Wheel of Light in Jubilee Square. Each ride on one of the 24 covered gondolas lasts around ten minutes, offering visitors young and old some stunning views across the city.

Christmas In The Gardens

A specially commissioned twilight show will be on display at the Cathedral Gardens from the 13th to the 22nd of December. It will include a giant inflatable sphere (four metres across) showcasing both video and animation effects as they spin around the surface.

Use the facial recognition camera booth on-site to create your very own animated portrait which will then be incorporated into the display in both interesting and wacky ways!
